Who is Dr. Alvis?

I was born in New Haven, CT but I have been in Texas since I was 4 years old. My parents are both native Texans. I grew up in Richardson which is just south of Plano. I attended Berkner High School and graduated in 1989. I went to college at UT Austin (Hook 'em) and then medical school at Texas Tech University. I returned to Austin in 1998 for my residency in pediatrics at Children's Hospital of Austin. I have been married to my wife, Tiffany, since December of 2002. We moved to McKinney in July of 2001 and I have been in practice here ever since. We love McKinney and plan on settling here and raising a family. I have many hobbies including woodworking (for an example, see the "Alvisometer" on the office tour page), computers, golf and graphic/web design (I designed and built this site).

A question that I am frequently asked is "Why did you become a pediatrician?" This is an easy question to answer. I love children. I know it sounds like a cheesy canned response but it is honest. I have always had a knack for relating to children which made becoming a pediatrician an easy decision. I have known that I wanted to be a doctor since I was 12 years old. I remember my crazy pediatrician, Dr. Ben Dildy. I remember he used to wear crazy ties which the kids loved. The best thing about him was his gentle, laid-back, easy-going nature that I think put the kids at ease. I have tried to adopt a similar style of practice to Dr. Dildy.

Another question I am frequently asked is "Do you have children of your own?" Tiffany and I just had our first child on june 9, 2006. Her name is Cecily Diane and she was 6 pounds, 0.5 ounces and 19 inches long.
